Verses & Poems by Margmax

St Patricks Day irish celebration of their most popular saint. Here you will find a brief history and poems/verses to use on this day.

Good luck to you to be sure to be sure
It’s the day of the year when you take the cure
Yes it’s the guinness that you need all the way
So you can dance an irish jig on St Patrick’s day

A religious holiday in Ireland now celebrated around the world on 17th March. Ireland had many saints but St Patrick is the most famous and it is said he brought christianity to Ireland.
St Patrick was born in England in AD387 and died in 461 He is said to have driven all the snakes from Ireland and indeed Ireland has no snakes but it is said it probably never had any and that this tale is symbolic of St Patrick putting an end to pagan practice. It is also said of the shamrock Ireland's national flower that St Patrick used it to explain the holy trinity to the pagans - this may be true. Although green is the colour of Ireland St Patrick was firstly connected with the colour blue.
After the potato famine Ireland lost 20-25% of it's population. Over a million people died and over a million emigrated this is the main reason that St Patrick's day is celebrated worldwide as the Irish took their traditions with them.
In Ireland most business's close on St Patrick's day which is said to be a day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide. America has a big irish population and every year the Chicago River is died green, parades take place with wearing of the green, music, irish food and drink and games for children.

Here I have written some poems that you may like to use on St Patrick's day as part of your entertainment.

Here comes that special day
When we celebrate the irish way
With the wearing of the green
And street parades that have to be seen

With food and drink irish fashion
And music that gives your heart such passion
To be sure it is a day the irish celebrate
So make sure you have marked the date

Saint Patrick was a special man
He was born in England but he delivered Ireland
From pagan practices into christian ways
He was a very special man in those days

I think he would be very amazed
That thousands of years later he is still praised
The Irish people never forget on his day
To honour Saint Patrick in their special way

St Patricks Day do a jig, drink a guinness and be sure to be wearing green

God bless you on this St Patrick's day
Indeed I will add a prayer for you when I pray
May health and wealth be with you and yours
And may luck be ever knocking at your door

Oh I love this day so I do
The wearing of the green although it was once blue
The wearing of the shamrock the national flower
And drinking of the guinness that gives you power

Oh I love this day I do so I do
The playing of the fiddle to jig to
The parades through the streets of the town
With the children running up and down

Oh I love this day I do I do
Do you love Saint Patrick's day to?

The top of the morning I wish you good day
Now should you wonder why I am speaking this way
Check out the date that is where you will find a clue
So now you know do you fancy a drink or two
